VLCD – Day 1

Well, today’s the first day of the very low calorie diet (VLCD). I must say that I woke up a bit nervous this morning. I had terrible thoughts about not eating, starving, etc. Nevertheless, I proceeded to start my regimen and had 1/2 grapefruit for breakfast along with 2 cups of water. Talk about yum. </sarcasm> Surprisingly, I didn’t feel too hungry all morning. On some mornings when I’m too lazy to make breakfast and give in to cereal, I’m starving by 8am or so. To make things even more challenging, I had an appreciation luncheon to attend with a co-worker at the Greenspoint Club. It was hardly the place I could show up with my brown bag lunch. Rather, the meal was catered with salmon, steak, mashed potatoes, bread, cheesecake etc. Fortunately, at the beginning of the line there was a large bowl of mixed greens. So, that’s what I had. A heaping portion of lettuce with a slice of lemon for my dressing. Kinda depressing when I think about it now. My co-worker gave me some grief and thought I was a little insane since I don’t look like I have any weight to lose (and I really don’t). When we returned to the office, I ate my home made lunch (3 oz chicken, 1/2 large tomato sliced, and an orange). It tasted great! I snacked on some more celery throughout the afternoon and had the same stuff for dinner. I’ve been busy every night, so I haven’t had time to plan my meals just yet.

The most difficult part of today was the mental game. I like to eat, snack, etc. Limiting myself to just celery for snack was a little difficult, but overall OK. Well, time to go help move a baby grand piano. Hopefully, I don’t strain my back in the process.
