Argiope Aurantia

My cousin recently blogged about some argiope aurantias that are plaguing her home. Not knowing the banana spider by its scientific name, I looked it up on Wikipedia. I stumbled upon this little fact, which I find quite disturbing. It makes me glad to be a male of the human race.

Often, when the male approaches the female, he has a safety drop line ready, in case she attacks him. After mating, the male dies, and is sometimes then eaten by the female. (emphasis added)
